NEED - Penny Chanter Reed

Hey everyone,

I need a reed! I am trying to sell a practice penny chanter set I bought years ago to a friend of mine. However, the original reed has become nearly unusable. I have reached out to Dave a few times but haven’t heard anything back. Does anyone have a spare reed that they can part with or willing to sell? If so, please message me. Thanks!

Dan

There are reed makers out there who make reeds for Daye’s Pennny Chanters, the specs are very well known.
Seth Hamon of Texas comes to mind, as well as several Irish or UK makers.

I bought reeds from Martian at Banda and was very pleased with the price, quality, and speed of service.

Ive had reeds from Martin as well and found them excellent. . .but hadn’t realized they could be ‘out of this world’! :poke:

 Bob

Thanks guys! I’ll check those out for sure.

I’m in the same boat. If I had known that Mr. Daye doesn’t answer his emails for replacement reeds etc. I would not have bought one of his penny chanters.

Martian Bagpipes ? Interesting field recordings…

Best wishes.

Steve

Just a note: it’s quite important that the original staple be used for penny chanters, or a similar hand-rolled staple larger than standard tube staples, for good results. Otherwise your octave tuning will be flat.

Thanks Bill. That’s good to know.

Looks like someone’s selling some David Daye chanter reeds here:

And gone… I hope one of them works well
