Why don’t they make mouse flavored cat food? Or cat flavored dog food?
Or dog flavored…ah…I won’t go there.
I’ll repeat. Why don’t they make mouse flavored cat food?

You have been conducting taste tests?
Wow. Not only has someone thought of it, but the cat food companies have actually explored the idea.
I don’t know about the cat food - but for dog food - you are talking about creatures that eat things like rotten vegetables off mulch piles, duck droppings, etc. Why bother with flavors at all???
The flavor for MOST pet foods is done to appeal to the humans serving it, not to the actual animal. Even if every cat or dog went crazy over a food, if it smelled bad to the person opening the can or bag, there wouldn’t be a resale.

I don’t know which concerns me more…
The direction your OT threads will take…
Or the fact that Jerry knew where to go to answer your question so quickly.
Truly, this is a scary world!
Wait. We havn’t discussed the cat flavored dog food yet.
I had a black lab years ago that would have been happy with cat POOP flavored dog food if she could have gotten it.
And, besides, back to the mice, if they can come up with artificial chocolate flavors, artificial grape, orange, pinapple, root beer, maple, etc…then why can’t they come up with artificial mouse flavor?
I have too many cats. (4)
Three are indoor outdoor. They hunt.
This is my observation:
If a cat catches a bird, it will almost invariably eat it, leaving only such things as gizzards, feet, etc…yuck, to clean up.
If a cat catches a rabbit, it will eat part, because rabbits are larger than birds, usually, and you get, on your porch, the proverbial “south end of a northbound rabbit.”
If a cat catches a mouse, there may be a bite out, but it is rarely eaten. I conclude that mice are good for play, but not so tasty.
Cats catch, but never eat shrews.
Perhaps your cats are different. But from mine, I’d advise against mouse flavored cat food.
Perhaps mouse flavored cat food for overwieght cats. They only eat a bite of it, and play with the rest. I know I would lose wieght if my diet were restricted to mouse flavored cat food.
Best wishes,
Jerry
And here’s just a bit more on that subject

My cat (he’s gone now ) really liked rabbits. He’d eat them all except for the head which he would leave for us to find…which is sort of disconcerting.

Is that any different than a hunter displaying a trophy rack from a deer? Of course, cats don’t thave the resources to have them mounted professionaly.
Best part of a cat, as far as my dog is concerned. The poo. She doesn’t want to eat the cats themselves, but if she catches one off guard it’s fun to smush it into the ground with her snout and say “I won!” (in dog.)
My cat wishes that there were mouse-sized pigs.
Well, mine wished for pig sized mice.
MeoW! Meow meow meow!
i know it’s gross that i know this, but the cat poo is a nutrient-related (protein, i think?) thing for dogs. i don’t know how dogs know this, but they somehow know that eating cat poo will give them extra nutrients since the cat doesn’t make use of all the nutrients in what it eats.
and yes, i know that the dogs don’t really know why they do it, but i couldn’t really bring myself to say that it is a dog’s instinct to eat poo. it just made me feel too sorry for them.
