Multi-whistle mail day

I got two whistles in the mail today!

Thank you so much for the Doolin Jessie - it sounds wonderful! And the portability is great, too.

And Joe, the Dixon A arrived in fabulous condition. Thanks for the sale!

I think it’s going to be a very noisy weekend!

Noisy? I prefer the word MELODIOUS. My family and friends prefer the word SADISTIC.

Hehehe…all of the above probably apply…

What are some good tunes for an A whistle? Anyone have sound clips? (reading music is a struggle)

Although it’s probably not the original key, I like playing The Reaper of Glanree on my Sindt A; here’s an 800K RealAudio sound clip of me. Sorry I don’t have streaming capability yet - it’ll be a download:

Anyone else feel free to pipe in!

I actually find an A whistle much more useful than a C. I use it (I only have one) to play tunes in D that go below the keynote. Just like playing G tunes on a D.

About the reading music part. What do people do about tunes in different keys? I can read quite well for the D whistle, but I can’t really play a tune on another whistle fast enough to learn it by ear (prefererred method for me). I play a lot from the O’Carolan book, and he even wrote tunes with quite a few flats (A harpist writing in Db?)

Do most of you key them in and transcribe?

Charlie

Hi Raymond, Where did you find that tune (Reaper of Glenree), you played the clip from? I’d like to hear the second part.

Jim

Hi Jim -

I learned it from my whistle teacher, of course…that being The Complete Irish Tinwhistle Tutor by L.E. McCullough. I only recorded an excerpt, as I figured people would lose patience downloading a 1MB+ sound file of me playing the whole thing.

Duh! That was the only place I didn’t look!

Thanks! Jim

Mr. Abell is making me a Db whistle as we speak!

Hey Raymond -

I wouldn’t mind hearing the whole thing, and I am on a cable connection so the download wouldn’t take long…

All right Beth, you asked for it. To keep the file size down, I played through each section only once without the repeat.

I have edited my previous post; you can click on the same link to hear the full tune.

I’d love to hear other people who have the capability to post some sound snippets of themselves too.
