Movie tunes

Hey There,

I am looking for Irish tunes that I have stuck in my head from movies and would like to play:

  • Last song in the movie “Nora”. This was a small art house movie about the life of James Joyce. I posted the same question a while ago with no success, anyone seen it since?

  • The upbeat reel in “The Quiet Man” where John Wayne is fighting with his brother-in-law over his wife dowery. Very funny scene!

Has anyone seen these films? Recognize the tunes?

Thanks,

Stef.

They show the following info for music:

Dr. Arthur Colahan (song “Galway Bay”) (uncredited)
Michael Donovan (I) (song “Galway Bay”) (uncredited)
Richard Farrelly (I) (song “The Isle of Innisfree”) (uncredited)
Richard Hayward (III) (song “Humour is On Me Now, The”) (uncredited)
Thomas Moore (III) (song “The Young May Moon”) (uncredited)

IMDB is a great resource!~

Stef,

I believe the tune from The Quiet Man (I love that movie) is called “The Rakes of Mallow”. You should be able to find it on JC’s Tunefinder.

Bruce

Hey Bruce! Yes, the Rakes of Mallow, but until recently I had never known the words/lyrics, which are also wonderful!! (in a rakish short of way):

Beauing, belleing, dancing, drinking,
Breaking windows, swearing, sinking,
Ever raking, never thinking
Live the Rakes of Mallow

Spending faster then it comes
beating waiters, baliffs, duns
bacchus true begotten sons
Live the Rakes of Mallow

Living short but merry lives
Going where the Devil thrives
Having sweethearts, but no wives
Live the Rakes of Mallow

Right on! I’ll look up those tunes.

Thanks,

Stef.

Oh, wow, I’ve been playing this (because it was the easiest tune on the BBC’s virtual session), and now I realise it was tailor made for me!!! Thank you!
