Hi Everyone.
Can anyone help please, I live in the UK and am looking for a teacher to help me learn the whistle, I am working through the clarke Tin whistle tutor book by Bill Ochs but thought that a teacher may help me speed things up a bit. Does anyone Know of a teacher near Cannock in Staffordshire.
Also, can anyone reccommend software etc to help me learn to read music.
Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance.
Graham
Hi Graham
Why not try Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann - the CCE has 2 branches nearish to you, South Birmingham and Coventry.
See http://comhaltas.ie/locations/detail/midland_region/ for contact details.
The CCE will usually have whistle instruction available.

For help reading music try: http://musictheory.net/
Look under “trainers” and pick “note trainer.” This is what I used.
Robert

Hi Graham. I’m probably just a little too far away from you for convenience (Wrexham), but feel free to get in touch. I’m sure you can find someone in the Birmingham catchment area, though. Check out your local sessions and folk clubs to see if there’s anyone who could help you, or at least point you onwards. TheSession.org has lists of sessions and of teachers. There used to be a very strong ITM scene in the Ironbridge area, particularly with the regular Thursday session at the Boat Inn at Jackfield, and the people who were the core of that used to run a Comhaltas branch and do stuff for beginners (Practice Session. Sunday mornings 10m-12.30pm. The Birchmeadow Centre, Broseley). The link I gave above suggests they are still active - certainly worth checking out. Folk Orbit is another useful resource. Good luck.
I always hear people saying how great the Burwell Bash summerschool http://www.burwellbash.info/index.shtml in the UK is. It seems to be booked out in advance and quickly though.
