Half-hole technique?

I’ve been trying to learn how to half-hole a C-nat. I’ve tried four different techniques, and they all seem to work:

  1. Lift the finger tip
  2. Lift the second knuckle
  3. roll the finger toward the fipple
  4. roll the finger away from the fipple

Is there a standard out there in whistleland? Thanks.

3 -its almost like sliding into the note ,smoother------------my 2cents

I was always told that you rolled your finger away from the fipple to half-hole every note. The reasoning is that on every other note if you roll it towards the fipple the the next finger will get in the way. It seems logical to do the same for C natural, just for consistency.

I can play a full chromatic scale with the technique, it’s easy once you get used to it.

i like to slide my finger down and to the side, so it just goes in there smoothly

this is how I do it for all the others but Cn i do it toward the fipple

I started using it for jigs with BCB in them. Trip to the Cottage being a case in point. Just flex the last joint to raise the tip, rest of finger rests on the barrel undisturbed. Otherwise roll down I guess.

Aybody half hole C every time? I think Joannie Madden does.

its faster sometimes
