Definately sounds like a project. At least the seller is being honest about the condition. For someone who’s into restoring this could be a good way to a cheap full set.
The set was reworked by Tim Britton and so might be playable? I recall some comments on these reworked sets before but don’t remember the details.
That the Lambe chanter was also “reworked” by Tim doesn’t surprize me. Tim does that.
He insisted on doing so to an O’Grady chanter that I had about 10 years ago during a reed making seminar at the Chris Langan weekend. I was fairly new to piping at the time and thought “what the hell…go ahead.” Personally I thought it an improvement as it seemed to “open up” the tone of the chanter. Kirk Lynch was there at the time and just about had a fit when he saw Tim take his reamer to someone else’s work! He didn’t say anything until later in private but, I’ll never forget the look on his face.
As far as restoring goes I picked up an older Ginsberg set of drones and regs a few years back and it’s been an ongoing project for me. With a bit of Joe Kennedy’s help, and a bit of work on my part I ended up with a pretty decent full set for a fair price!
