Henke, like you i feel for anyone having to sell his collection, and hope all is OK with springrobin.
but i wanted to say that i really think you are a cool guy for caring about people in the personal way that you do, there are a few people that make this board feel like there is a closeness, and friendship on some level, and you definitely are one of them.
i don’t think i put this in the best way that i could, but F$%^ it, you know what i mean,
and if not, i take it all back

I bought a flute from Robin in December - she is a straight shooter and good person to deal with.
Robin - be sure to keep one (or two) to play or you’ll go nuts!
Hey Robin, do you notice a tonal difference between your two rosewood Sweets? When I visited his workshop last month, there seemed to be a correlation between the color of the rosewood and the tone of the flute. And the darker colored flutes seemed to me to have a richer tone than the lighter ones. Of course, this was based on a statistically negligable sample of the 4 keyed rosewood flutes he had in stock and my own keyless one.
Oh, Robin, bummer! (I know how it goes; I still haven’t got my roof fixed yet) Anyway, good luck with the sale, the new flute, and here’s hoping fortunes take a better turn fast.
Thanks for the kind words. We’ve all had problems and even though others can’t make them go away, it helps to know one is not alone. For now, I’ll be happy with the knowledge that my family is ok. How many places in the world do folks not have even that? Please don’t think I’m being a martyr, though- I’ll keep at least one flute and a whistle to play when the rest of the world is driving me nuts!
Hi Kate- I haven’t had the lighter colored one long enough to notice any significant differences. Maybe I (emphasis on “I”) get a slightly richer tone with the darker one, but that could be a function of the playing time it has and also because I know it better. Others might have some theories on the differences in woods…
Neither flute has offset holing, but I haven’t had problems with the stretch. Some women do, though and it could be that I either have big hands for a woman or have learned to “open” them up which isn’t easy for everyone.
