Hello. I hang about the pipes and whistle boards but know very little about flutes. Can anyone identify the flute in these mugshots? Any wisdom, and even witty foolishness, would be gratefully received.
Quite a page mauler that one! I’m afraid you can read all about this flute in the sticky above - the one on flutes from Pakistan.
Sorry about the picture size. I think I fixed that. Definitely a Paki flute, eh?
Yup much better on the pics now. Yes I’m afraid there is little doubt about it. Fixed a crack in one of these for a friend once, and although it could be played in tune the tone was somewhat fuzzy.
Well, many thanks. I trust the judgement of the Chiffboard.
It’s a shame you don’t live in the UK as I have a small holed Eugene Lambe flute that would make a good starter flute for you. I’m looking for £150 for it but I doubt it would be worth it for you especially with the weak dollar at the moment. But it’s there if you want - oh it’s a lefty embouchure (though I just turn around the headjoint to play it right handed - it’s his reform style).
Nitterwhiskers, please check your PMs.
Weird, because here is (apparently) the same flute on Lark in the Morning, listed as De Keyzer:

Any thoughts?
More and more confusing. Here on Hobgoblin are two flutes that look identical to my eye, and one is listed as De Keyzer and the other is Pakistani.
Is there a way to tell the difference? A logo or something? Magic potion? DNA testing? Make them look you in the eye and tell the truth (works on my children)?
I’d say it’s a De Keyzer, which would play easily and produce a very good tone. He does stamp his flutes…
Where should the stamp be located?
This looks alot like my DeKeyser flute. The stamp should be above the top finger hole by the joint.
The jury is in: Mr. DeKeyzer Himself has confirmed that he made that flute.
The confusion lies (perhaps) in the fact that there is a Pakistani flute of almost identical appearance sold under the name Glenluce. You can see it and a DeKeyzer on the same web page over at Hobgoblin.
De Keysers are underrated axes, in my opinion. Lots of bang for the proverbial. Cheers,
Rob
If memory serves:
DeKyzer has brass rings.
While Pakistani flutes have nickel-alloy rings.
