I can’t say anything about this particular instrument, but I bought my first ever flute from this seller and had a very positive experience.

I believe the Swallowtail Reel is being played on one of these,
Abell headjoint, too.

Yes, Jim, the seller made reference in the eBay listing to her flute being similar to Grey’s flute, which also has an Abell HJ fitted. She also is a (former?) C&Fer, I think, at least used to be seen in Chat.

It really is a different sound (of course Grey is playing it wonderfully). Not a Rudall.
It doesn’t have the edge or ‘focus.’ Akiba described his GLP as a small Pratten.
I’ve heard Grey’s flute played in sessions.

Somebody should tell mr. Abell to make his headjoints look prettier
Personally I can’t understand that hiss in Grey Larsen’s playing, don’t you find it annoying?

Very much so. Particularly in the second octave I don’t like the tone he gets.

This is my former flute that I recently traded for a half set of pipes, along with the new hj that Jon C. made copying the Firth, Pond & Co. original hj. I don’t know why the original hj copy is not included n the deal. I know it is my old flute because of the nick in the upper part of the body. I have sound sample of this flute Pm me if interested. I think it is a great flute, and had I been able to sell the original Hudson Pratten that I own, would have kept this as my main axe.

Maybe they liked the Jon C. HJ on another flute, more than the Abell they had available. Chris sells a new HJ & barrel for $1200, so that could be the majority of the price asked.

I remember that one.

Quite good.

That Abell HJ looks… rather interesting.

The headjoint looks to me as if it was profiled to have a deeper chimney. Rather than a more dramatic thinning of the remainder of the head, or a raised lip plate (as on a Boehm flute), it’s just smoother down from the greater thickness around the embouchure hole.
