I bought this expecting that I would eventually learn to play well enough to be able to enjoy it, but it looks like my carpal tunnel problem is not going away anytime soon. I’m going to keep my CB Folk Flute, but this instrument should really go to someone who will play it.
The posting site I use does not allow direct links, but a couple of pix are here:

It was purchased via ebay as part of the Jerry O’Sullivan Benefit Fund back in Sep '04. This is what the auction said:
Antique Cocuswood and Ivory Wooden Flute This is a fine Cocuswood (Rosewood Family) and Ivory 4 Keyed Flute Makers name: “Firth - Hall & Pond N-York” is stamped on all five sections, plus on the main body, “Firth - Hall & Pond Franklin Sq N-York” with serial # 2726. The flute is made from a beautiful choice Cocuswood with four silver keys (not nickel). It measures 24" with head joint pushed all the way in. It plays concert pitch A440 with head pulled out 3/8 " It is from my personal collection. The flute is in a remarkably fine state of preservation with minor repair to 2 ivory rings and to a small area at top of barrel joint (see photo). There are no cracks or repairs to any other part of this flute. The flute was made in c.1835-38. This is one of the finest playing flutes I have had in a long time. It is easy to fill with great response and intonation and a lovely tone with plenty of power. This is a great piece of American antiquity. And though a great playing instrument, would also be a choice piece for a collector of fine instruments. I am offering this fine instrument for The Jerry O’Sullivan Benefit Fund. Jerry is a great musician and is a major force behind the revival of Irish/Celtic music and culture throughout the world … Thank you, John G. McAuliffe
I don’t play nearly well enough to be able to offer any comments of my own on the playability of this instrument. If anyone has any questions or would like more detailed pix, let me know.
I bought it for $1000 plus shipping and ins., and would like to sell it for that. I’ll throw in a pistol case - that’s probably the safest packing for shipping anyway.
