Any of you have experience with Alba Low D whistles?
How does the right hand stretch (and hole size) compare to say the Susato low D PVC?

I can’t tellyou what the stretch on an Alba Low D is but check out http://www.bigwhistle.co.uk
All the whistles are pictured beside a ruler so it should give you a fair idea. Phil Brown is a great guy and a whistle player also. Have a listen to the sound clips, it’s not ITrad but well worth a listen.

From my experience, Alba’s low D finger stretch is the shortest I know, and the holes are small, both combining for an easy beginners’ whistle.
Right hand stretch :
1st to 3rd hole, centre-centre : 70.5 mm
1st to 2nd : 46 mm.
F# hole Ø = 9.3 mm.
E hole : 7.4 mm
Susato’ s stretch is 1) longer 2) I can’t seal the 2nd hole of right hand (F# vent) because of it’s oblong, almost rectangular shape.
I do have boney fingers.

Go to e-bay thare is an Alba low D for bid I’m topped out at $63.00 I think it will go for more. I’m not going to pursue it anymore because I ordered a quiet Hoover & my wife will kill me if I get two whistles in the mail. Keep in mind that the seller probably paid $150 all together. I think at $100 or $120 it’s still a good deal.
Pity you can’t hide a low whistle in a high one…

The price on our web site, for an Alba Low D
is $121.24 with the P&P to the USA.
Last week at Celtic connections, a ten year lad was able to play one and very well.

Anyway. I did get the greed in me when I saw that whistle and my birthday is coming up…No, we have to spread these things out to keep the peace.
