Feeling better about my WHOA... and my MK

As a private music teacher, I play all sorts of instruments and whistles all day long (not hard to get excited about work). Tonight with the worship team I decided to play bouzouki and whistle. The pickup on the zouk makes it simple at a loud stage volume, however miking a whistle can be a challenge trying to balance feedback, monitors, hearing yourself, etc.
Long story short, I really enjoy my quieter whistles for acoustic duets (like my Kerry low D and Hoover low E), although I just can’t get away from my MK low D for loud/rock/worship gigs. Not only does the MK sound phenomenal, it’s not delicate on the low notes, so i can hear myself acoustically a little.
Sorry boys, this one will never be for sale… :stuck_out_tongue:

Just heard my new MK Kelpie has been shipped. Can’t wait!! :open_mouth:

I have no intention of hi-jacking your thread but I’d really like to hear a well done review and comparison of a few high-end low D whistles against the MK. While I don’t doubt the opinions of the really excellent players singing the praises of the MK, and willingly admitting that I own far more whistles than is probably healthy, I am not afraid of investing in high end whistles. I think the only commonly available high end whistle I don’t own is the MK. But does it really sound that much better than my Composite Low D Burke, my Brass Copeland or my Goldie/Overton? Again, I’m not doubting, just wondering if a journeyman, amateur player can bring out the best in the MK or is it one of those “PRO” whistles (like the Copeland) that will just frustrate me?

I’ll probably buy one anyway but I’d like to have a reason to wait a little while since I have no self control at all. :boggle:

BTW, congrats on the MK. If it makes you happy then what else is there?

I’ll take it you have seen this one. No Overton or Copeland but you do get a comparison to other well known whistles.

Can’t help there, that’s too subjective or personal an area to comment on. You might as well get on the waiting list.

i’ll go with my stock advice: get as many as you can afford, keep what you like and sell the others on this board.
as of now, i’m not pursuing any other high end low D’s since i’m so happy with my MK. I picked up a Kerry low D cheap, and if I find any super deals used I might, but as far as getting another high end one retail, i see no reason to as of now.
