Anyone out there have an Elfsong chanter whistle in D? Wondering the difference in fingering GHB vs regular whistle fingering . Also info about the breathe control with this versus a regular whistle. Any info would be appreciated.
I canāt answer your question, but you can be put away for GBH!
The fingering is exactly the same as the GHB, if you finger it a bit different, thereās a huge difference (much more noticeble than on a real GHB) but for breath control it just plays like a regular whistle.
Iāve played it a few times, but donāt really like it. Like to play the whistle and like to play the GHB, but I donāt really like a GHB whistleā¦
These have been discussed here sevreal times in the past. If you use the search function you should get a number of hits. One I remember is here.

Thanks for your help.
How does the GHB chanter whistle differ in fingering from the Uilleann pipes?
I have tried a GHB chanter, but found it incredibly hard to blow, so I was put-off pursuing it further.
Will the chanter whistle work with closed fingering?
Could anyone shed light on how the chanters of various pipes (GHB, Uilleann, Northumbrian, etc.) differ.
One day, I would like to learn pipes. As a kid, I was always intrigued by the GHBs, but being northern English, maybe I should not dismiss some of the English pipes.

At the risk of thread-jacking, are there any reviews of the Elfsong manufactured whistles, with delrin head? Iāve seen the review of the Elfsong handmade whistle but nothing much about the $30 manufactured one.

Completely and utterly I would think.

The whistle with the āmanufacturedā head has been discussed here and an impression given by a respected board member and whistlesmith. I believe the head is injection molded from delrin.

Thanks, yes I did see that thread and OāBrienās first impression, but thatās all Iāve seen, here or anywhere else. Given the extensive discussions on this board about other whistles in the same price range, such as the Dixon Trad, Susato, etc., Iām surprised that the Elfsong manufactured whistle has had so little attention. I may have to buy oneā¦

Right!. That says something, IMO.

Please could you expand on you one-line reply. Is the key different, tone-hole spacings, type of reeds, etc.

Yes, I would like more info on the fingering etc also. I was thinking of getting a chanter whistle for my godson for a gift. He plays the pipes and I thought the fingering would be the same on this whistle. Therefore, it should help him convert from pipes to whistle
Uilleann pipes and Scottish chanter are very different instruments with very different fingerings so a Highland pipes fingering whistle is completely different from the Irish chanter. Not much of an expansion I know but do look up the fingering charts for both chanters.
Peter,
Thank-you. I asked simply because I have never really seen separate practice chanters for the Uilleann pipes. That made me think that the chanters were very similar and that technique and style of instrument differed.
Charlie
There are no practice chanters for Uilleann Pipes, a āpractice setā is a proper chanter, bag and bellows which can have drones and regulators added later. But the chanter is generally the full blown real thing.
Peter,
Well⦠how do pipes in your avatar sound?

Peter, how do you get so much sound from that little guy in your avatar?
