How about a few pictures Chuck. I know they look good, play good, sound good. But not everyone can drive over to your shop in fifteen minutes as I can.
Chuck, I recently bought one of your whistles from another member.
I have to say that it was really impressively machined and finished.
Just wonderful craftsmanship.
Yep, Chuck does make a nice whistle. His Bb is one of my favorites.
I do wish he’d expand his range though …I’d love to own a Tilbury B, A, or G one of these days.
Thanks very much! I am still making whistles as a hobby. I have to travel almost 3 hours to get to my shop so that limits my production quite a bit. I also make A, G, and F whistles but getting the time to do it is a problem. It’s all I can do to keep up with the demand for the soprano whistles. I am hoping that early next year I will be able to move my shop and so be able to get more serious about it. Not having my shop nearby is seriously wearing on my nerves.
I am also thinking of making a rolled instrument like a Clark classic or Shaw from sheet brass. I like them both, but I think that I would like a plastic fipple block better and more of a beak. Any thoughts on that?
Well I’ll likely buy an A, G, or both if you get around to making them some time. Being so far from your shop sounds like a real pain the ass.
I like conical whistles. The only ones I own are my Copelands and a Freeman tweaked Clarke Sweetone but they all have a very lovely chiff. I may be incorrectly attributing to the conical shape, but what I know about whistle building could fit between any two characters on this page. I’d be very interested in hearing a whistle from the Tilbury Conehead series one day.
It is a BPITA. I will see what I can do about making a batch of “mezzo” instruments. Fiddlers Green here in Austin has been asking for some as well. Send me a message using the contact form on my web site and I will email you directly when they are ready.
I would be interested in one of those provided the seam was offset to the side away from the thumb area. I add thumbholes to my whistles which is not worthwhile trying when the seam is in the way.
