Chieftains V3 vs. Kerry Songbird Low D

Has anyone had the opportunity to play both of these whistles? I would be interested in any comparative comments anyone might have about sound, ease of play, quality, etc.

Thanks!

p.s. I’ve heard the clips on the Kerry website but it is hard to assess the whistles on the basis of those alone.

i would like to know too, i was going to get more of a jazzy low whistle.

The V3 is probably the most responsive low D I have yet played, and is also one of the easiest players. (again, you can read a full review on my site, the link is below). However, I just recently purchased a songbird, and it is by far my current favorite low whistle. I just love the sound, very warm, round and mellow. It is also fairly responsive, but not quite as responsive as the V3, so I guess it would depend on what you were going to play on it. If you were looking to use it at sessions for lots of reels and faster dance music, I would go with the V3. If you were looking to play more solo music, I would go with the songbird. To me, the biggest difference between the two is the sound/tone, the V3 is very breathy yet still bright while the songbird is less breathy with more of a mellow, purer tone. Both whistles are very polished, professional looking and feeling instruments.
