are student chanters currently being made?
Davy called me about 2 weeks ago to indicate he was catching up on his backlog of orders and (at the time) his website indicated he wasn’t taking any new orders. I see today it’s been updated… and the message has been removed.
I suggest you contact him for a current backlog status.

THE WOODCUTTER RETURNS!!
mr bagpipeworks - are you out there?
Probably too busy doing rip-offs!
Give it a rest pipeman
Huh, I was honestly just today thinking about emailing Davy and telling him how much I love the practice set he made for me.
-Joey
me too!
It’s a loan chanter but his student chanter plays great.
Hope that Davy completes my works soon.
I’m now making reeds myself with the help of Davy’s site.
I made 5 reeds using 4mm innner diamater brass tube,and I can’t
beleive but they sounds well enough
has anyone been in touch with bagpipeworks recently or have an email address?
Kevin m just received pipes from Davy.

Davy Stephenson delivered my practice set in person on Tues 23rd.,and made my Xmas for me.
I had a great evening’s crack, and took the oportunity to show Davy some of my whistle and Flute collection (he was particularly smitten by my Bernard Overton ‘G’,asking to play it time and again!).
Why does this guy get such a hard time on this forum?- especially from people who seem to have never owned a set of his pipes???
As well as my practice set, with holly chanter,he also brought along a superb looking set of Boxwood drones (oh! oh! I LOVE BOXWOOD!).
Davy seems to be a genuine guy who has fallen on some difficult times, esp. healthwise, this last year,-his heart seems to be in the right place, and he seems to care about pipe making(look at the help that he’s given to Dave 'Greenwood’for instance)-come on folks, give him a break.
I had an o’Briain Holly stick
I loved it! Holly makes lovely chanters
Kevin,
well said, I’ve never had a problem contacting Davy, or getting a reply. Of course I don’t go around phoning, e-mailing etc, etc every 5 mins. How the hell do people expect a maker to get anything done if they keep wasting his time asking stupid questions? I hope to get my 1/2 set around the middle of 04, if it runs over it’s no big deal, they’ll be ready when they’re ready.
Best, Mac
Kevin
Happy to hear that you got Davy’s work. By the way when did you
placed him your order?
Not to ruffle anyones feathers without cause, but if no maker ever had the time to answer “stupid questions” because it was “wasting his time” they’d be out of business in a second. It comes with the trade folks. I have tried to reach Mr. Stevenson on a few past occasions with no success either, but after hearing of his recent troubles was able to understand why a bit better.
It’s not an isolated incident and it’s not only one or two makers. This is a valid concern for anyone willing to put forth the money for a set - regardless of how “stupid” their questions may seem to any of the rest of us.
That being said, for the most part, Mr. Stevenson seems to have come through for his customers and is working to help out those for which the ball may have been dropped. I would hope that everyone has learned a bit more from their experience here and while we have to assume that a maker will follow through on their word regarding availability, lead times, prices etc. to the best of their ability, it is fully OUR responsibility to spend our moneys prudently and to do our homework concerning makers business practices both past and present.
Best,
Brian~
Hi Brian,
no feathers ruffled as far as I’m concerned.
Cheers, Mac
Innerhand, sorry to take so long to answer your question.I ordered my set on the last day of February 2003.
PiperBen,pleased to note your enthuisiasm about Holly Chanters-though this naturally raises a question. If the O’Brien was so good, why do you speak of it in the past tense?
Kevin
Thanks for the info of your order. I placed mine late march and it seems
that Davy is cathing up his delay! Soon will be my turn
Please remind me,Innerhand. What do you have on order from Davy?
Unfortunatly the holly stick was on loan from Cillian and when he finished my current chanter I had to return my lovely holly stick
The chanter he made me is great but I wish i had the holly stick as well!
