Ceolchuairt : Mick O brien

Post by Mr.Gumby »

The TG4 programme Ceolchuart sends traditional musicians off to find out about other traditions. I happened to zap into TG4 over the weekend and fell into one of the series that saw Mick O Brien dispatched to Sardinia where he found himself trying to fit the pipes into the local music. Some interesting moments.

Was that the show that had Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh going to Bulgaria some years back?

Great programme . I always feel sorry for the guy who has a viking longboat land on top of him.

Entertaining, and stunning scenery.

I was most impressed by the speed and technique of the local making that drone reed at about 38 mins in.

Thanks, Mr. Gumby, this was fabulous. Does anyone have the link to the episode in Bulgaria?

The four from the present series at the bottom of the TG4 link are the only ones they have at the moment.

There are bits on youtube

This is a taster for the Bulgarian one.

Thank you so much! I lived in Bulgaria and Macedonia about four years and the music there was terrific and very much alive. This is great!
