Finbar Furey's reedmaking video

Post by bobkeenan »

Several years ago there was a multi-part video of Finbar making a reed. Then it disappeared and this year the same video popped up but with some odd, elevator style, music with it. Despite the odd background music it was great to see one of the UP legends showing how he makes his reeds. Well now, whoever posted that video has pulled it.

So I went to The Finbar Furey site and sent them a note about it. Shiela (his wife?) wrote back the next day..... she told me that she did not know why the video was gone but that Finbar would do another!!!!

I guess its because the crowd of UP musicians and appreciators of UP music is a small one, but i think it is so cool how accessible, friendly, and helpful these top players and near legends are.

Or at least ther spouses are ;-)

Tell us something.: If you flush your toilet 7 times whilst lilting "The Bucks of Oranmore", an apparition of one of the great pipers of old will appear in the mirror, you will be blessed with good reeds, but cursed with bad bags and bellows.

Yes, I've noticed that too!

Anyways, glad he will be making another one!

May I suggest you use Firefox and install the "download helper" add-on.
There may be other instructional videos on the internet that work better played from ones hard drive.
I'm not sure because I've never used it. ;)
