FS: Dave Williams Keyless Flute

Post by MusoJon »

With much regret I am looking to sell my Dave Williams Keyless Irish Flute. It was made by him in 2001 shortly before he tragically died. The flute is in near perfect condition and has in fact barely been played. If anybody is interested then please get in contact.

I have tried to research what would be an appropriate price for what is such a rare item but not had a lot of luck. Dave made the flute for me when he was arguably in his prime as a maker. I unfortunately have not been able to play it enough to do it the justice it deserves. I have got an idea what it is worth but I would like to see what offers I receive as I am by no means an irish flute expert. If anyone is interested or indeed knows how much it is worth then please PM me and we can chat.

See the links for pictures of this beautiful instrument.

Thank you.

Jon

A barely played Dave Williams keyless flute with sliding head joint made in 2001, no waiting time, I'd say 900-1100 euros = 1200-1450 USD = 760-930 sterling. Dave passed away Oct, 2004, and made the best concert pitch uilleann pipes ever. His flutes are also top quality instruments

A five keyed Williams recently sold for around the prices you mention recently. It's important to consider the market these days.

Do a search a few Williams flutes have sold in the not too distant past.

I agree Dunp. It is not a seller's market. Unless you are selling a keyless Wilkes or an Olwell. MusoJon is offering to sell the keyless Williams for 1500 sterling on Gumtree. I think 900-1100 sterling is a more reasonable price although achieving that amount could prove difficult in today's economic climate.

Steampacket, I agree that £1500 is a very high price I needed to put something on Gumtree in order to list it so better to go higher and receive an offer (like I said on there) rather than seeing myself off by putting it on too low. The price I had in my head was actually in the same price bracket as you said in your first post, I just didn't want to post a price on here in order to seek wisdom from those who actually know!

That's cool MusoJon. I hope you get a good price for your Williams flute. I have one of Dave's early four-key blackwood flutes and it's a good one.

Niall Keegan sounds good on his keyed Williams

Hey guys, thanks for all your support and advice. :pint: Having listened to this as well as other people elsewhere I have decided that I will be selling at £900. I am located in Portsmouth, UK. However, I spend half my week in London if anybody wanted to try it.

MusoJon, Mr. Williams made flutes inspired by both Pratten and Rudall instruments; do you know which this is? Are the holes more on the large side of the spectrum, or are they small-medium?

Doesn't affect the value. but many players prefer one over the other.

Best of luck with the sale,
Mick

Hi Mike, sorry for the delay in reply! The holes are slightly on the larger side in my opinion, although I'm no expert! Im afraid I also don't know where this is a Pratten or Rudall inspired instrument.
