I'm posting this for a friend of mine who would to sell/trade these instrument:
Walking-Stick whistle, made in Paris about 1893, perhaps as late as 1900 by Charles Mathieu.
Knob in silver, body in brass, ferrule in silver and Pernambuco wood.
This instrument has 6 finger-holes, evenly spaced, and 2 speaking holes on either side below, key hight D.
Picht A = 440 Hz.
Total length: 92 cm.
Length of recorder: 38.8 cm.
Speaking length: 25.8 cm.
Small conical bore: from 14 mm. to 11 mm.
Consists of two parts:
The upper is the whistle section sounds through vent holes at its lower end where the solid stick lower part is inserted.
The upper recorder section is of a thin metal with a decorative hammered silver head, with a stamped design to simulate a cane top.
The blow hole is in the top of this head.
The lower section is of solid Pernambuco wood.
Both parts are painted to hand with lacquer, very nice.
Excellent original condition .
Good sound and intonation; rarely played, only little traces of use.
