For sale: Olwell, 5-key, cocus

Post by Mike Casey »

For sale: 5-key cocus wood flute made by Patrick Olwell in 1993. Includes an unkeyed Eb section and a hand-made wooden case. Sterling silver tuning slide and keys--Eb, short F, G#, Bb, and C. This is a Pratten-style flute that Patrick adapted slightly for smaller hands by reducing the stretch to holes 3 and 6. You get the big Pratten sound with less work! I have small hands and have also struggled with tendonitis, leaving me unable to play the last few years. I am selling this flute in order to buy a small-holed instrument and hopefully figure out a more sustainable way to play as I get older. I played this flute in the band Cucanandy for a number of years and it is a great-sounding instrument both by itself and with others. Price: $6,500. Further information: mikecasey@mindspring.com. If interested do not respond to this list. You can also contact Patrick to talk in more detail about this instrument. Photos available by request.

Just for the record, Mike is sound as a bell, and this flute is a real humdinger as you'd expect. Good luck,

If I were in the market for a keyed Olwell flute, Rob's comment would be very helpful in helping me to make a decision about whether I wanted to purchase this instrument or not. However, on the used instrument for sale forum, I see that the instructions forbid this type of followup reply. I think that I would be more likely to list an instrument here as long as I was allowed to do that. I'm curious about what others think about this.

Yes, BUT, apparently that rule applies only to that forum, and not to this one. ;-)

That said, however, I agree that a first-time post then followed by a supporting post by an established member of this board certainly does lend credibility.

Lads, fair question here:

Is this the right place for this discussion? This is, after all, someone's FS thread. I felt compelled to make a brief comment here, in the case that anyone here doesn't know who Mike is. I understand that there may be an issue with doing so on a different area of the forum, so maybe a discussion is warranted elsewhere. Let's not clutter up Mike's advert with our further musings. Cheers,

Rob

I seriously considered buying the flute (s). But it's too big a stretch financially.
I would have to sell several flutes and I don't know if they would sell
in this economy. Mike sent me pictures, the flute is very beautiful,
painfully so. He is also a terrifically nice person to deal with.
I hope somebody here will get it.
