$2.50 a bottle in Monterey at the Brit store on Alvarado St.. I dunno, it's a bit bubble-gummy for me... I have to say, there is nothing like IrnBru. Kinda like whisky, in that it begs for a bit of dilution. The closest thing to it flavor-wise MIGHT be a blue goose sno-cone...

Of course, my sons, noble lads they are, love the stuff... Everything else is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaapp.

Middle aged naked people? On TV?

Over here the tight-a** lilly livers would cry their hearts out and send all their children to councilling for being exposed to the horror of a naked bum.

Yeah, I get that a lot. Sorry, but fresh spring water and whisky work for a lot of people in this world, including the British Isles. I spent an afternoon in 1985 with an old gent in Islington (we shared the same uncommon last name and invited my wife and I for drinks). Anyway, he had a ceramic pitcher with water and a bottle of whisky and the combo made for a nice afternoon. He happened to be an importer of booze, though not whisky, but his drink of choice was of course, whisky. (In case yer a Londoner, it was J.H. Beeson.)

I sincerely believe that whisky's flavors can better be discerned and compared with varying amounts of fresh, cool water. It doesn't make me less manly, but I'm sure it could get me pummelled somewhere in Caledonia for so stating, based on yer note.

It just doesn't last long enough otherwise. And for anything decent, that's like $30 a bottle these days. It's become heartbreakingly expensive here...

Cheers from the land of free choice....

some say if you use the water that is used to make the whisky it will taste just fine .but if you drink a fine malt would be a waste

Well, tait, believe me, I always try it both ways!!! And I don't drink the blended stuff... but I can see how you would think it counter-productive to getting the full blast.

A quick google came up with the following wordy and humorous take:

The distiller even makes little pitchers for the purpose!

Bollocks (both bits).

Even the scotch whisky association say it's ok to add a dash of water, apparently it opens it up a bit.

I add a wee bit of water to my whisky (and I mostly drink single malts) because my Dad said it's ok and so did his Dad. Sometimes I have it neat, depends on my mood.

Anyway the not adding water rubbish is just nonsensical dogma like not wearing underwear beneath a kilt.
