T-shirt I saw:

"President Bush Spent a Month on Vacation in CRAWFORD, TEXAS and all I got was this lousy double-dip recession!"

No. But I'm still expecting that $300/$600 tax advance to kick this economy into action any minute now.

As bad as the economy may seem, it could be worse.

Try telling that to my mother, 76 next week, who must work full time because her retirement fund tanked due to Enron, WorldCom, trickle-down economics and the like.

I suppose everyone has heard Joe Lieberman's definition of "trickle down" economics? It's "Feeding the birds by giving the horses more oats!"

I was reading a news story today on how Dick Armee is holding the National Health Centers funding bill hostage - not because he objects to it but to force approval of a much more controversial anti-abortion bill he wants passed.

Heck, no skin off HIS nose - none of his rich suburban constitiuents use neighborhood health centers.

Dale, I would think that you of all people would recognize a few things. First, that taking cheap shots at the President around the anniversary of 9/11 will be viewed by many people as bad taste. There are a lot of members from New York and DC, some of whom probably have had to live with loss. Second, there's no way you can blame Bush for the recession. It started three months after the guy got into office; Clinton's policies were all still in place. (Clinton's not to blame either, it's just a cyclical thing.) Third, intolerance of viewpoints that are not your own is exactly what led to 9/11.

And three Democratic Senators are holding the nomination of the new person to head the FAA (which oversees air safety for God's sake) hostage because she won't tell them that she will defy a court order to submit a union contract to the OMB for review (ie, she will conduct her administration legally).

I'm not a Republican, nor am I a Bush fan, but aren't there more appropriate forums for this?

Politics and religion shouldn't be discussed on C&F. Or if they are, we should start yet another new board. We could call it the "I can smirk at all of you because I make snidely superior remarks about your beliefs" board. Whaddya think?
