Thumb Rest for a Low D Whistle

Post by bonnieb »

I have a Burke Viper and I absolutely love it! :)

What I would like to know is if there is a a ring type thumb rest you can put on it for the whistle to rest on the right thumb while playing? My hands a re small and I can play this, but it would make it so much nicer if there was a thumb rest to use.

Thanks for any info.

Hi Bonnie-
I just tried this on my Burke Viper:
I looped a small, wide rubber band over the
end of the bottom tube several times and then rolled
it up to a point above the fourth tone hole to a point
to fit my personal thumb position. This should work
unless you happen to place your thumb really low
down the whistle. The slight tackiness of the rubberband
tends to keep the thumb from wanting to ride up over it.
Yeah, it looks dorky....but might work for you till you
find something more practical.

Have you looked here:
http://www.thewhistleshop.com/catalog/w ... brests.htm

I noticed the Whistle Shop is closed the first week of this month.
One of these thumbrests might be compatible with the Viper.

Thanks for the help!

I love playing my Viper, but is would be easier if I had a thumb rest. I think I will order one and untill I get one, I am going to try that rubberband trick.

I use a tight fitting O-ring for the same purpose. Might work better than rubber bands for you; might not. Certainly will look better. :)
