Bouzouki Color/tone..should I use larger guage strings??

Post by ClassicalIrishGuitarists »

Hello,

I am wondering what gauge strings you experienced bouzouki players out there are currently (please list your preferred guage, I would very much appreciate it!).

By bouzouki has rather small strings (smaller looking than many pictures of bouzoukis I have seen) and I am wondering if I shouldn't change them to some larger gauge set. I am currently getting a thinner sound than I would like, I am trying to figure out what I need to do to produce a thicker, but still bright sound that I keep hearing from bouzouki players.
If you have any suggestions, please, by all means post them.

Thanks,
Joshua.

What's the scale length of your bouzouki? What tuning are you using?
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Tell us something.: Of course I'm not a bot; I've been here for years... Apparently that isn't enough to pass muster though!
