Humphry whistle sound sample?

Post by rance »

Does anyone have some sort of sound sample of a Humphry whistle? I have heard that the sound is good and that the whistle is very in tune with itself, but I haven't heard any sound clips anywhere.

In general, if the maker does not provide sound clips on their site, you can go out to Tin Whistle Tunes, formerly known as Clips and Snips, which is an adjunct to this forum. It is a repository of recordings by players participating in this forum. Most tunes have a reference to the instrument being played on the recording. I recall a number of Humphrey whistles being referenced. There will be a date on each recording to give you an idea if the whistle may be a current design. Keep in mind these recordings are not necessarily made by professional players but rather by enthusiasts that gather here on C&F. Have fun listening.

There are other sites you can find which reference a particular make and key of whistle as well. One example would be Mick's Virtual Whistle pages.

Tony Hinnigan has some reviews on his pages as well.

I have a couple more to add..

At http://whistlethis.com/ people post their recordings with different whistles and there are some whistle reviews.

Also, a fellow chiffer has this website with reviews and sound samples.

http://www.tinwhistler.com/index.aspx

Both great websites
