There's no place like Haiti for the Holidays.

Post by Doc Jones »

I'm headed for Haiti at 3 a.m. Thanksgiving day.

I was recently asked to serve as chairman of the board of directors for our little orphanage down there. Seems we've got a few things that need attending to so I'm going down to see what can be done to help.

So anyway, if anyone is of a praying persuasion put in a good word for me as well as our 325 little charges this weekend.

Friendly thoughts or energy from the non-prayers are also welcome. :)

Another thing to be thankful for...that there are people like you in the world.

Good luck and God bless.
Every time I turn around, I wonder where I've been.
Time to stop turning round, I guess.

I will always pray for you. I am convinced Christ's hand is in what you're doing.

Thought about taking whistles down for the little rascals but thought better of it. After all, I'll be staying in the orphanage with them all weekend. :boggle:

I took whistles to my nieces and nephews in North Dakota this summer and nearly got lynched by my in-laws. And there were only about a half dozen of those little hooligans.

I got your back. Hopefully being in California won't make that much of a difference. :D

You are a blessing, there and here. My thoughts are with you, and the large lot of lovely little hooligans as well. May you all bask in the love of this life.

It is good to know folks like you also inhabit this ol' world. We hear too much about the others and not near enough about things like this.

We have electricity for minute here in Haiti so I thought I"d check in and let everyone know I'm still alive and say thanks for the kind words.

The kids are sure wonderful. Wish I had a bigger suitcase and I'd bring a few more home. :)

Brought down a Hammy Practice flute. Had to convince TSA it wasn't a weapon. Finally did so by playing a few tunes at the metal detector. Couldn't convince them that my toothpaste was safe though as no matter how I squeezed it, I couldn't get "Fig for a Kiss" to come out. They threw it away. The world is doubtless a safer place without it.

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

Good, good, good. Hope you enjoyed your roast, ah, goat with all the trimmings. :)

How about some pictures of the kids?

Doc - playing for the TSA - what an impromptu concert!
Wonder if others have had to? If I had to play for them, they still might consider it a weapon (of sorts) and who knows what dark dungeon I might be in now.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you - The Lutheran church does have a presence in Haiti - for what it's worth let me know if I can look into anything that might be of assistance. The Spirit moves, though hills can be more stubborn than mountains at times.

Blessings

Just reporting in. I got back at 2 am yesterday morning.

The kids are doing well but need everything. I'll post a more detailed report later.

I appreciate the kind thoughts and words. :0)
