Nickel or Brass?

Post by Leahcim »

I know that nickel whistles tend to have a brighter tone, while the brass ones are more mellow. But does the comparison go beyond that? and which do you prefer?

I've only had one nickel whistle, but I don't like it much. It was a cheap one, but I've had some brass cheapies that were great.

I have one Nickel whistle - a Gen F, and it is sweet. I have a nickel plated copper O'Brien's, and so I don't think the nickel counts for much on the sound of them but I love the look of the pink copper holes peeking though the silvery nickel tube.

I play mostly brass, but I think that's just because it happens that most of the D's I own are brass.

I find I can really tell the difference between metals in whistles like Burkes, Copelands, etc. Not so much in the Generations.

I prefer the warmth of brass myself, Reyburns specifically. Or Overtons, but they are not nickel or brass. :D

It's my opinion - highly regarded (and sometimes not) by me. Peace y'all.
