- Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

So far, it's about what I expected.

My sister just completed hers this summer, then (to celebrate?) took a job here, to be closer to family, where--since she switched both county and state--she's now teaching 10th graders who fall way more toward the "challenging" side of the bell-curve than her former classes.
I'm picturing a To Sir with Love scenario. I'm sure it'll be great.

I believe it.jim stone wrote:Do these teach anything of value?
I used to teach education majors.
They often were discipline problems.
As for your question, yes. The program I'm in has a strong emphasis on technology. The tech courses will be very useful both to me personally and, through me, to my students. I teach largely through composition--it's amazing what elementary kids can come up with if you give them the tools--and there are a LOT of really great resources out there for music education that I really can't use because I don't know enough. So that part is great so far.
The "education" parts so far are like undergrad ed courses, only more so. See picture above. If you've taken ed courses, no explanation is needed. If you haven't, probably none would suffice.
I could probably get most of the tech know-how on my own, but since I'm doing it anyway, I might as well make it official and go for the nice pay raise.
Thanks for the positive thoughts, everybody, and please excuse me if I act a bit wierder than usual the next two years or so.
Tom

Not you too!!!!
Seems like everyone I know is working on/getting/got their masters....
My brother, sister-in-law, two friends from church, all but sis are teachers. One of my friends just finished her masters and is now looking at a Dr.
Gee, as a college drop out, I told 'em they are getting to much education for me to even associate with them......

I sort of hate to say it, but I'm mostly doing this as a financial investment. The actual learning, as I said, I could probably figure out on my own. It really doesn't change anything, except I might actually be able to plug in my computer and turn it on without help.
But I had a couple teachers in HS with doctorate degrees, and we called them "Dr. Smith" and such. So I'm wondering, after I finish, can I make my students call me "Master Wilson"?
