I may have written a hornpipe...

Post by jen f »

I'm not really sure. I didn't set out to compose something; I was just playing around and it came out. Quite possibly I've heard it before, or it's just a compilation of various other hornpipe parts.

So did I make this up, or have you all heard it before?

Say, that's lovely! And very nice playing, too. A quick search of my tune resources turns up nothing like it. So congratulations ... you probably wrote a great hornpipe!

What do you want to call it? Meanwhile:

T:Jennifer's Hornpipe
R:Hornpipe
M:4/4
K:G
(3gfe|dBAB G2FG|AGFE D2 (3DEF|G2GB dBgd|edcB A2 (3gfe|
dBAB G2FG|AGFE D2 (3DEF|G2GB dBAc|B2G2 G2:|
FG|A2AB AFDz|BABc BAGB|d2Bd gdBd|edcB Az (3gfe|
dBAB G2FG|AGFE D2 (3DEF|G2GB dBAc|B2G2 G2:|

I know what you mean about writing tunes. Whenever I try to noodle out something new, it often turns out to be something I've heard before or very similar. But this time, it looks like you've done it. :-)

Can anyone recomend a program to translate ABC into sheet music? I have tried abcedit and I can't get it to work on abc files other than the collections that come with it. For example MTguru's abc of Jennifer's Hornppe.

Normally I'd put it in here: http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html , but it claims there's an error in the ABC.

I added a line, to MTguru's abc, before the first line "X:70"
then it works in the Concertina Converter. So it looks like this:

X:70
T:Jennifer's Hornpipe
R:Hornpipe
M:4/4
K:G
(3gfe|dBAB G2FG|AGFE D2 (3DEF|G2GB dBgd|edcB A2 (3gfe|
dBAB G2FG|AGFE D2 (3DEF|G2GB dBAc|B2G2 G2:|
FG|A2AB AFDz|BABc BAGB|d2Bd gdBd|edcB Az (3gfe|
dBAB G2FG|AGFE D2 (3DEF|G2GB dBAc|B2G2 G2:|

Thanks for the positive comments, everyone!

And thanks for putting it in ABC for me--I guess I should learn how to do that at some point.

Thanks Greg.

Jen, I took the Tionól course work to heart and learned it by ear! YAY me! Yay you! Let us know what you end up naming it, but for now I've got it as "Jennifer's hornpipe".

It's dandy!

Somebody please tell me the correct way to enter an author's name into the ABC coding for a tune.
