awesome davy stevenson chanter

Post by tradbanjoman »

Srugling to learn the pipes for 10 years I was recently given on loan the best chanter ever to have my fingers wraped around. By a maker called davy stephenson.
its like 5 years hard practice has been put in over night I actualy sound like a piper when i play it. wow.
I have owned 3 chanters before this came along the makers shall not be named but should be shamed for selling the sticks as instruments to beginers that dont know good from bad.
i thought i was incompetant as a piper and nearly gave up.
thank god for makers like davy he cares about the survival of the art of piping and pipe making.
thanks davy what a diamond geeza.

Congrats TBM! I have reeded a number of his chanters and it has always been a pleasure playing them.

...but perhaps both octaves were not truly in tune - and they are now.

I tried a Davy Stephenson recently. I found it incredibly easy to play. Took almost no bag pressure at all. That took a lot of adjustment for me. I have no doubt I could have become very attached to that chanter.

Hey Greg, is that my Stevenson you're talking about? If so, it has a lot to do with the reed. I played a very stiff reed for quite some time until Joe Kennedy made some new ones. The chanter sounds lovely with either.
