Hi All,
Still being new to the whistle, it has occurred to me that my JF tweaked Generation Brass Bb (thanks Jerry) has some chiff. I like that.
In comparision my Dixon Trad D and Susato VSB D have very little.
I found a poll in 2004 that asked this question, but I was wondering with more users than in 2004 what people think of chiff now. See
http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php ... chiff+poll for last results.

I like'em pretty clean sounding, but a bit of chiff when I attack a note hard is cool too.

I like 'em like I like my dames.
Out in the public square...pure as a shiney new Burke.
At home...funky funky CHIFFY, like an old painted-up Overton.

mmm whistle depends… some songs are better in one chiff, like the old songs of Wolfe Tones, etc. for other songs I prefer a pure tone, for groups like Lunasa.

When I first started playing I was after that pure tone. My Dixon trad comes closest. But I've come to appreciate more the chiffy sound of my sweetones and LBW. I don't play with anyone else. In a group I think the purer tone is a lot easier to pick up.
