new desktop whistle rack

Post by Oreo »

Now available at your neighborhood discount store is this inexpensive whistle rack:

Similar models can be found at dollar stores with a criss-cross pattern on the sides, suitable for holding larger whistles.
I can't figure out why the discount stores would sell these whistle racks but not sell whistles!

Displayed are a Village Smithy, two of my own creations, and six wood whistles currently on a private tour made by Tommy Dion. (Tommy is currently best known for his tweaking of whistles.)

Hey that's pretty cool! You got some nice looking sticks there. Is the plastic pre drilled for that? What is that a test tube holder? Pretty ingenious!

BTW What is that big black thing to the left of the whistles with all the keywork on it... a lamp?

That big black thing is a working clarinet.
And the plastic rack comes with the holes pre-drilled.

Excellent, O! Thanks for the (hidden in plain sight) idea!

So, it means that the lamp gives good light, doesn't it? :P

That's an awesome idea! I wonder if our local place has any of those. Hmmm...

What kind of clarinet ya got there? That was my main instrument for many years. :-)

I like it. What did you use before? I made something once out of some scrap wood and dowels but I busted it up one night. I was walking across the room in the dark and I nearly impaled myself on it. :boggle: Your idea is better.

Since you ask: Clarinet: Buffet in A.
But I play a Forte clarinet in B flat most. Clarinet players take note, if you haven't seen this: www.forteclarinet.com
My wall-mounted whistle rack is 4 feet long and has a soprano sax in it too!

Can you narrow down where you found it? Wal Mart is very big.

Plastics section, with containers of various sizes. Mine's labeled:

Sterilite (the manufacturer - http://www.sterilite.com )) CD's & DVDs #1695 (full # 1695LAB86)Clear UPC code 073149695864. Wal-mart price was about $0.97

Kevin is right on with the name and description, the sticker on the shelf listed it as a "mini crate". I found it where all the plastic bins and boxes are.

Brilliant! You are a genius, Oreo. Now I've got to make a trip to Wal-Mart tonight. Do they make one for the clarinet too?
