Cure Found For WHOA! Please Read Immediately!

Post by Wilsing »

All of us know about that dreaded disease WHOA. I really think that I have it under complete control..... FINALLY. I have all the whistles I need, in all the keys I need. I have tried just about every make of whistle at one time or another and now know which whistles work the best for me. I offer encouragment to all of you who are still suffering from this disease. It CAN be cured, be strong, resist the temptation for yet another whistle. You do not need another whistle, do not order another whistle, do not purchase another whistle. Please....please follow my example. Be strong!

-James

Oh, one more thing.....Gary Humphrey e-mailed me and told me that my Stealth High E Flat, my High C, and High B are completed and will be shipped on Monday and Paul Busman says that the High D in Cocobolo which I just ordered on Friday will be completed in 2-3 months.

Like I said.....BE STRONG, please, BE STRONG

Your comments are welcome!

Yeah, I remember that freshly-cured feeling. I felt it about a year ago. That's before I found a good deal on a Burke, picked up a Greenwood D (also in cocobolo), and traded around until I got ahold of a couple of contralto Susatos which aren't half bad. Other than that, I've been pretty much WHoa free ever since.

BTW, I didn't know you could get a Busman whistle in cocobolo. Hmmm......

Yeah, James, you can do it!! Be strong, just like me. :thumbsup:

Oh, I'll bet you could order a Busman in styrofoam if Paul thought he could get good tone from it... Paul's pretty open-minded about wood selection...and does a good job. Cocobolo is an excellent tone wood for wind instruments. Me? I have no whistles I anticipate getting.... except that one I'm waiting for O'Brien to make.... oh yeah, and that Whitecap I'm gonna order from Mack, and that black walnut I was thinking of sending to Rose..... well, okay, so I'm not cured.... hey, you have to suffer from a malady to make you want a cure.

... hmmm... I hear a chorus of "Hello James"....

God grant me the serenity
to accept the whistles I cannot afford;
courage to buy the ones I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

One day at a time, friend... one day at a time.
:)

I'm ashamed that sometimes I see whistles for sale on this board and think to myself..

My WhOA is cured, and has been for about a year. Unfortunately, I have developed a strong desire for concertinas.

My bank account now wishes I still had WhOA.

Avanutria has it right. I'm coming down off a couple decades of banjo, fiddle and mandolin obsession. My family is very accepting of my WhOA disorder. :lol: But truly, remember that you will buy and sell. Over time, it will not cost you any significant money unless you hoard. I say, go for it and enjoy!

I suffered that addiction also for many years. Tina's are seriously an expensive addiction.

I wonder if there is a genetic immunity to WHOA. My first whistle was an Oak that I used for 15 years before buying another whistle. Now I have a Sindt and might not buy another whistle ever.

Except if I need a specific key or maybe a special purpose whistle like the 2 piece I keep in the car because it fits in the console. Or if one is just too beautiful to pass up. Or if I need cheering up. Or maybe WHOA is contagious and I shouldn't have posted to this thread.

Like the nicotine patch, that's not a 100% cure rate, as I can attest ;)

A friend of mine figured out how to cure hs dog of licking his, uh, well, um, you know, his "privates." To which the dog replied:

"WHY?"
The Walrus

What would a wild walrus whistle if a walrus could whistle wild?

The second mouse may get the cheese but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired.
