Northumbrian Small Pipes Stolen from Sean Folsom

Post by sean an piobaire »

Hello fellow Pipers:
Here's my sad story: I was playing a memorial service for a dear friend, in Berkeley, California, on Saturday, June 3rd, 2006, and someone took the Pipes out of my suit-case, and walked off with them.
I didn't discover this Northumbrian Small Pipe as missing, until I needed to play them for a summer-school class this Tuesday-last (June 20th, 2006). I found the BELLOWS, which was in a separate plastic bag, but no NSP! I presume whoever took the pipes, didn't know that the NSP needs a bellows attached to it, in order to play it.
I suspect the memorial party, as that was the last time I took the pipes out and played them, then I put them back in the suitcase, which I left in the dining room and when outside to play the Northumbrian Half-Longs in the back yard, and do my own personal eulogy.
So here's the info: For a PHOTO of the set, please go to:

http://www.hotpipes.com/pipe0005.html

The set is in the key of F and made from Lignum vitae
(AKA South American Iron Wood).
The Keys and Ferrules are made of Brass. The Mounts are I.C.I. coal tar plastic "Imitation Ivory" yellowed with AGE (oxidation? U.V. light?).
The Drones and Stocks are by Ken Fisher of Jarrow, circa 1972,
and the 7 keyed chanter is by Colin Ross of Whitley Bay, circa 1994.
Underneath the Brown Tweed Bag Cover, there is a Micheal MacHarg
"elk hide" riveted leather bag.
I had the pipes inside 2 doubled up plastic shop-bags from "Hudson's News Agents" I picked up at Logan Airport in Boston, some years ago.
The large G and D drone sliders were disassembled, and rolled up with the bag.
I am offering a $200 USD reward, which is the best I can do at the moment, NO QUESTIONS ASKED ! I just want to get them back !

My telephone number is (831) 659- 2548 and I can be Emailed here or at seanthepiper@yahoo.com
Thank You For Your Help !!!

Hi Sean, ouch I have your album with this set recorded on it and it sounds wonderfull. I can understand your lose. You may like to see if there is an invitation list of guests invited to the Memorial Day. If so see if you can ring around and ask if anyone has seen your bagpipes. As its highly likely that the thief attended the memorial day. If not at least you have some leads that you can hand to the police.

I'm glad to report that the Small Pipe returned to me today (missing the G drone slider). It did go missing at the memorial, but I have no details.
Elton Wildemuth, who was administering the distribution of the other instruments from the woman's instrumentarium, mailed it back to me at his own expense THANK YOU ELTON !
So it all ended well, just have to have a new slider made, every thing else is intact.... I'm Very Lucky indeed!!!!!!
