Russian church-bell ringing

Post by Walden »

For those with interest in bell ringing, and, in particular, tolling, here's a nice collection of Russian bell-ringing mp3's.

Those have to be the tiniest, quietest bells in the world. I can't even see 'em.

Here are some rather nice little pictures of people ringing Russian bells for Easter, I believe.

Not Easter. Actually, they are ringing for me, and I didn't even ask. Damn that Poe!

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

Okay, I'm sure this isn't what Walden was going to post but here are two pages:

http://zvon.yaroslavl.ru/english.htm
If you click on "See a Video" you can see a little film. It took quite a while to download it. It did briefly show a man ringing bells, which was interesting. Main focus is on the great Ouspenie Cathedral in Rostov.

There are mp3's here to listen to of the bells in that cathedral. I know nothing about bell ringing so I just post this here because it is interesting.

This website is everything about Russian bells.

Unfortunately I can only get the first page in English. However, if you want to see absolutely astounding photographs of orthodox cathedrals, many of a most unexpected appearance, scroll down and look through the photo gallery. It is truly worthwhile if you like photos of this sort (which I clearly do  ).

I've always wanted to visit an Orthodox church; Greek or Russian or whatever--I've always wanted to go to one.

Oh dear. It takes me so long to write my posts that I didn't see you had put this up. I'll look forward to listening.
