Straight flute

Post by professor keller »

Hi,

I've seen John Hackett playing a sort of straigth flute in Steve Hackett's 'Hungarian Horizons' DVD (there's an online video sample here:
http://www.stevehackett.com/NewsItems/Hungary.html

I didn't see a flute like that before, and, being a flutist with some neck problem, that instrument seemed like a vision. Does anyone of you have some information about this 'peculiar' instrument? I really appreciate some clue.

Regards to one and all.

Here's a still-frame grab of the flute John Hackett is playing... Sadly I don't know what it is but the still will save folks time playing the movie (especially if they don't have broadband).

Yes, that goose-neck looks really interesting. Why not contact him and ask him about it: http://www.johnhackett.net/

a little different, but might be an interesting option is a shakuhachi headjoint:

Thanks to all. Does anyone of you experienced that flute, playing iyt?

By the way: "I've seen John Hackett playing a sort of straigth flute."

All flutes are actually straight... I would should said "vertical" instead. Just a nonsense of mine...

"Sandy" Drelinger has made a big deal out of this too.

His is probably the best known kind of upright headjoint.

I'm pretty sure there was one (or more) of them in Jessie's picture of her flute collection.
