Note frequencies

Post by IDAwHOa »

Where can one find what frequencies the supporting notes for a particular scale are, for say A = 440? Been thinking about it and finally remembered to ask.

Start at your base note (e.g., A=440.0,) and each half step you go up, multiply by the 12th root of 2. For each half step you go down, divide by the 12th root of 2.

So, if instead you tune A=444, the d above that would be 444.0*2^(5/12), or 592.668895 Hz.

You can roughly calculate the next tone higher of each note by multiply frequency by 1.059463

Example A : 440 * 1.059463 = Bb: 466.164

According to Steve's hyperlinked table, D is 587.3
My table is: 587.3295515

Equal Temperment is 440 * 1.059463 * 1.059463 * 1.059463 * 1.059463 * 1.059463 = 587.3292743

Where did you guys get 592.668895...? Excel comes up with 587.32953583
using the previously mentioned formula. All other website show around 587.329......

Hmm... Mr Spock?
I let it go when you first-approximatism lost the Grapefruit satellite.
Now your attempt to tweak this Ressikan flute makes it unrecoverably sharp.

Personally, I think one decimal place would be more than adequate to properly tune an instrument.

But hey, who am I?

That was using A=444, not 440: 444*2^(5/12)=592.668895...

The above calculation was based on 444 not 440. That's how they got 592.
