Fingering for high D

Post by vaporlock »

I've always wondered how many people finger high D as XXX|XXX as opposed to OXX|XXX

When playing 3rd octave high D, I play only oxx oxx :

I need the spare finger to plug my left ear. The right eardrum is already permanently damaged by misuse of a sxxxxo standard-bore D.

My choice wasn't there. :(

It depends on the whistle. I have one that sounds rough if I don't OXXlXXX it.

I wanted to put type of tune AND the notes surrounding the D, but plumped for the former. In a quick reel or jig XXX XXX is fine, but OXX XXX is better for slow airs.

When going from D to Cnat OXX XXX makes a lot of sense - so both answers really.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that schwing

The only whistle I have where it makes a significant difference in the sound is my copper Serpent D, so usually I don't bother.

You need another option....

"I avoid high D at all costs"

....that's my choice...
