People's Avatar
I love the avatars....but hope that people settle into whatever they choose. Changing them gets me confuzzled, and I don't need much help in that department! As I see one I paste its impression to a name. When I see a new one...then try to match it with a name, and see its an OLD name...anyone read Tanith Lee's 'Don't Bite the Sun' and 'Drinking Sapphire Wine'?
If its a pic of the person, I need to make mental changes in what I see... if its a true 'avatar' I just encorporate the image of what you think you project with what I have in my mind.
As far as mine is concerned, I wonder if anyone thought I would do anything else!

HELP!
I have an image I want to use for my avatar, but its 36 KB--over the 20 KB limit. Thing is it's already tiny; making it any smaller size-wise would defeat the purpose. So, any of you computer-literates out there, any tips of how to compress or lower the KB size? Thanks!

I use Photo Studio but any newer ggraphics program you have should work.
First, call up the picture and look at it to see if you can remove extraneous stuff around the edges. If you can, crop the image down to the essentials. Save it with a new name. Next, check the new file's size. Even if it is now under the 20kb limit, you'll need to make sure it's within the 100x100 pixel limitation. If not, you'll need to use the program's image transformation (it may say 'resample') to reduce the image under 100x100. Again, save the new file. At this pointm you can just go to your profile and upload the file diectly to this program.
Look at my avatar to the left. It started lfe as a a 36kb graphic. By cropping, I got it down to 14kb, but the image was still 224x219 pixels. I then resampled it to cut the longest dimension to 99 pixels, and by allowing the program to retian proportionality, the short dimension came down to 84 pixels.
