OOoooh, I havn't actually attempted much for Lord of the Rings (sad, too, since I am totally obsessed with both the books and the movies). I do love to play the beginning of Concerning Hobbits on my whistle, though.

Greetings, fellow Ringnut! :D

It was partly LotR that got me to buy a whistle, because I wanted to play that bit from The Black Gate Opens. I heard that, and how could I not want to learn the whistle? I can also play May it Be, In Dreams, Into the West, the Fellowship theme, and the beginning of the Rohan theme. Concerning Hobbits is high on my list of things to learn.

Concerning Hobbits is pretty easy... okay, okay. I admit, I found fiddle music for it on a website and just used that. What key do you play Into the West in?

My second favourite air: How Much Is That Doggy In The Window? played real slow and suitably ornamented. Try it, it works.
May the joy of music be ever thine.

What key? I dunno...I've never been good with key names. I just play what sounds right. I've got a D whistle, though...

I heard a lovely song, called Tabhair dom do Lámh, does anyone know where I might find music for it?

Especially if a fiddle, a squeezebox, a nice fingerpicked guitar, and some u-pipes were to be added. I wonder if Lunasa could pull that off?

Just don't name it "The Doggy Dew"! :P

I don't think anyone has mentioned 'Ar Eirinn Ni'Neosfainn Ce Hi'...'For Ireland, I'll Not Say her Name'.

Also for me....

Kitty Bawn O'Brien

The Wilderness Road

Blind Mary

and 'The Holy ground' played slowly (as in MAry Black version) is dead gorgeous!

I wanted to add that many Jigs can be played as slow waltzes or slow airs. For example, Morrison's Jig played very slowly with a little license regarding the rythym makes a wonderful slow air. For me, it carries a sense of persevernce, struggle, regret, reaching for the unattainable, companionable resignation to fate.
