I got it right away too. I think my eyes are sore from trying to find something else

Or very eye straining and head-ache causing :)

I usually have no problem with these things so I was trying extra hard. I saw the "3d" right off but thought that there was supposed to be an "object" there. My eyes really are a bit sore now from straining them. I guess that'll teach me to waste time on forums while at work! :P

Well, OK.

Here's the deal.

That's the wallpaper over the toilet in the upstairs bathroom.

Every time I use the facility, I stand there looking at the wallpaper and reflexively think, "Where's the 3-D object?" Then I think, "It's wallpaper, Stupid."

I recently got this newfangled digital camera, so today when I went through the customary sequence, I decided to get the camera and take a picture (of the wallpaper. Behave, now).

And guess what? If you look at it correctly, you don't just see a wallpaper pattern. You see the actual wall over the upstairs bathroom toilet! In three dimensions!

Pretty amazing.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Well, that's what I thought the joke was, but after this post:

I wonder if "Jerry Freeman antics" are covered under my health insurance? Actually, my company doesn't even have a vision plan so I guess I'll just have to go to court and sue Jerry for pain and suffering. I'll accept my settlment in the form of a full set of tweaked Gens ;)

It being in your WC gives a nice new twist to Oscar Wilde's supposed dying words:

Dunno. Probably depends on whether the image depends on color or line. I seem to recall both kinds.

At first glance, I honestly thought that was all it was, just carpet, and Jerry was just being silly. But when Jerry says things like "C'mon, guys, you're not taking this seriously", I always give him the benefit of the doubt. So I really gave it a try, and all I got was the impression of space with the patterned surface to the rear of that space. That's where I said to Jerry that it was cool, but it didn't count. He begged to differ. I accepted that. After all, you can indeed get an impression of space, as if you could reach out and touch the pattern further back than the actual surface of the image.

Jerry, you have some groovy tastes in wallpaper.

It still looks like a heavy woven fabric, like a rug or something, to me.

It came with the house. I pulled up the carpets, refinished the freshly revealed wood floors and rebuilt the kitchen, but the wallpaper and paint haven't been touched.

There was a lot of demolition in the kitchen. I pulled down a (bearing) wall, removed the back (servants') staircase, and enlarged the kitchen/breakfast area to a liveable size. (I put a 6" X 18" X 24' laminated beam above the ceiling to hold up the upstairs rooms above the kitchen and carry the snow load, BTW).

At the point where the demolition was complete, the ceiling joists were exposed, the floor joists were exposed, and you could see into the dirt floor/stone wall rough basement area underneath where the floor had been completely removed. Arleen came over with Ana, then three, to view the progress that day.

Ana said, "Mamma! Kitchen GONE!!"

Best wishes,
Jerry

I suppose you know that this whole stereoscopic business was originally called "The Wallpaper Effect"?

Boy, I'm glad I didn't see anything! :boggle:

I can usually see these things too, Jerry. Perhaps the object is too big for me to resolve it? It 'feels' like I'm only seeing the center.

Is that seriously it? I had that all along and was trying to figure out why it was only a single solid plane.

Jerry, you cheeky monkey

Cheaters.
That doesn't really count as a 3D "object" -- I can do that staring at wallpater and bathroom floor tiles -- that doesn't mean something's is "there" ...
