Their eyes met across a crowded room. There was an audible click.
"Are these two marbles yours?" called a voice. "Somebody could have slipped and... Aw Jeez, they're... You two are just sick puppies!"

I can't remember how long I set this vote to run--not much longer I don't think.
I think Walden is about ready to concede to Innocent Bystander, anyway, and make IB the official victor.
I expect Harlequin to come knocking any day now, IB. Be on the lookout.

I'm ready to confess that, barring any last minute adjustments to the voting trend, (I'm a big cheater and entered my own contest,) I came in a distant 3rd. Woe is me on two counts. No red or blue ribbon, and the infamy of entering under false pretenses.

Any other pseudonymous authors ready to unmask?

I confess I entered under the name Walden... but... that's my real name.

Yeah, I'll concede. Just give me a few moments to prepare some notes for my concession speech.

Well, the authors should remember that we could only vote once. I had a real hard time deciding and it was a very close thing. If others could enter under pretend names, why not emmline? If the winner is voted on it there's no way to cheat so that's why you can enter the contest you started.

Thanks Em, Thanks everyone, it was fun. I stand in awe of those individuals who didn't even vote for themselves.
It was close, and if more people had voted it might have been completely different.
What's next? Science Fiction? Macho Lit?

But you make such a wonderful Vespa Nutmeg, emm!

Congrats, IB! And to all of you, really. It takes a lot to write a short story like these. They all were very good (in my opinion anyway, which really is all that matters in the end  )
