I always worried that Ro3b had waaaay too much iron in his intake.Ro3b wrote:I'm in much the same situation as dubhlinn. Since my fiancee is a longtime vegetarian, I end up cooking and eating that way myself, though I don't really consider myself a vegetarian. As a Buddhist, I'm supposed to be one, but (like a good Zennie) I'm suspicious of anything I'm supposed to be.
When I do eat meat, I try to make it organic free-range stuff -- factory farming is cruel and disgusting.
It's time for me to become a vegetarian again

Cran, you miss the point entirely......I was merely indicating that I find your avatar to be offensive and lacking respect, so I don't see how you can lecture others on it's misuse.

Actually, it's nearly impossible to be a vegetarian in some places. Grilling over an open fire is so popular that you literally breathe meat as air pollution.vomitbunny wrote:Why doesn't everyone just move to the south? It's easy to be a vegetarian here. Oh, by the way, they declaired pork a vegtable some years ago here in Alabama.............

Everybody has a right to choose what & why to eat, my particular views are my own & I would regard it as bad manners to try to force them onto someone elseClaus von Weiss wrote:I'm vegetarian for something like 18 years now. I actually used to eat a lot of meat before and liked it a lot, until I realised, what a nasty habbit it is to kill and eat your next of kin.
And all those, who enjoy making fun at veggies, please just remember, it's all about killing a feeling, (in it's way) thinking and (most important of all) suffering being, just because you want to eat your favourite dish. It's pretty nasty, isn't it?

I don't think any of us here are making fun of veggies. What I am amused by is some of the the unbalanced, emotive and ill-informed 'arguments' that are being put forward.

- Tell us something.: I love Irish music! I am mostly a whistle player but would like to learn more about flutes. I also have a couple older whistles I'd like to sell and maybe pick up a bamboo flute to practice with.

The corporate food service industry has all but destroyed the locally owned restaurants and markets. They promote and/or own the bad (in my opinion) commercially produced meat that drives much of the cruelty issues. I try and support any small independent restaurant or shops I run across. They tend to use locally grown meat and produce.

I've been a vegetarian for 16 years this past Easter. Hubby gave up meat one year after I did, and our daughter has always been vegetarian.
That said, I can't stand PETA. Their campaigns are so over-the-top they give all animal-rights people a bad name. I especially hate the way they tend to target young children, who really don't have much say in what they're served for dinner or what their parents choose to wear.
I also don't see much point in targeting a particular restaurant. It's not as if KFC were the only restaurant to use animals raised and slaughtered under grossly inhumane conditions...in fact, that's true of MOST of the meat that's raised and consumed here in the U.S., whether you buy it at KFC or at your local supermarket. Heck, a few years ago they targeted Tyson and, while some people may have stopped buying the Tyson brand, it didn't have much impact on the consumption of chicken overall.
