Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Hey, if a person who plays harp is a harper, a person who plays whistle is a whistler, and a person who plays pipes is a piper, then a person who plays bones is:

Whoa, Nano. That is brilliant. That is a cut above. You should get an award for that one. Maybe stick a little star on your forehead for a day. Maybe someone should send you a box of Enzyte or something. :D

That's what they used to be called, all right. Back in, say, the gay nineties.

What's Enzyte? A type of disposable whistle?

Dunno. Something bone players are supposedly using to enhance their performance. http://www.enzyte.com/

Update on the clueless harper coming to sessions hereabouts:

During a break from the pain last evening I asked him, "So, how many tunes have you got by now?" (keeping in mind my past urging him to at least get a tunebook), and he hemmed and hawed, saying that he was just improvising; he hadn't got around to finding any sources yet. Well, he'd had about 3 months to try, but sure couldn't (which I translated as "didn't bother to") find anything on the 'Net. Right. I firmly assured him that it's out there, no nonsense about it, and he absolutely needed to be able to play tunes or at least know them well if he was to accompany them properly. I was very constructive and matter-of-fact if unbending about it. Boy, did he quiet down his noodling after that; nary a pointless glissando but for one or two, and far more discreet by comparison.

I went off for a smoke, and a couple of other players stopped by and thanked me for speaking up. The precious part: one was a bodhránaí who was sitting next to the harper, and she said, "He was making it hard for me to think, and I'm a drummer. I don't think." Ohhhhh, did I stick the knife in and give it a twwwwwwwist. :D

Yes, it's true, the difference between ITM and Ce...Celt....Cel...Celti...(I can't say it!) is synthesizers, but I'm really a proponent of the keyboard only in the context of piano-esque voices. Everything else is cheating. But if you're using a perfectly legitimate instrument in a non-cliche way, I think it's justified.

P.S. Please don't slaughter me.
