Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

That's a great - looking new set there, Uilliam, some unusual features. Go on - tell us all about them. You know you want to!! Things like how the bass reg construction works and why the e reg is oval in section?

Just nosey like!!

I think that is the most beautiful set of pipes I've seen in a great while.

Very nice indeed.

I have a 4th drone on my set (plays G and A, depending on how far out the slide is set). Magic sound. That's an unusual arrangement on the E regulator, but very tidy. Tayloresque?

However, Uilliam, after all your preaching, I'm surprised that you opted for tuning pins on the regulators. :P

What a lovely set of pictures, Liam, all the way through. One of the best documentsions I've seen of the whole process of turning a piece of wood into something so beautiful, and musical. Congratulations on the new set!

yes, but a little tweak in the staple will resolve this little problem (this reed was the first with a new staple disign, and anyway, i never consider a little of tape on the back d hole a problem:)
it's the weather here in italy that always make trouble too...

Rory thanks, It has probably cost quite a few of Bills' brain cells
Gabriel thanks,The looks where an important part of the commission.I particulary wanted the wooden bass bar for aesthetic reasons but this created new challenges for Bill.
PJ the 4th drone can play A/G and if ye take the slide aff D.As fer the pins I still stand by whit I said and I have no doubt that they will remain a decoration as they are. However if'n I want to play in another climate or on the moon then they may come in handy
There is nothing Tayloresque aboot this set  unless ye are referring to the silver securing strap. This is to secure strengthen and raise the e reg to playing height from the stock as opposed tae attaching the reg to the stock or other reg.The set is based on Coyne.
Andy briefly the air feed to the Bass comes frae the front of the stock instead of the side via the small tube. The reg isnae oval that is the strap it is piggy backed onto another piece to keep it within the stock complex. The stock is larger to accomodate the extra drone and regulator.Having a hollow stock and wooden bass bar the set is very light and it is no bigger than a D set.

Thanks Lorenzo Bill kept a pretty extensive photographic record of this set in progress so it will be of interest to future generations.

Uilliam,

All of our bickering aside; that is one beautiful looking set. I love how you chose to change it up with using silver and boxwood instead of the brass. It looks great!!
