I play the Derry Air as a test when I am evaluating a new whistle because of the range. I use the same tune as a test so I am consistent in my evaluation. Besides it is a nice tune. Who cares if some don't like it. :D

I've never met a whistle I didn't want.

Reminds me of the guitar store with the notice "No Stairway to Heaven" pinned to the wall.

There's a surprising number of those, actually.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Nope, I gave it to my wife. She has a cold.

As for the Air of County Derry, I did a little googling and read up on it. Interesting stuff. I feel as if my whole life has been a lie now!

It is interesting stuff, isn't it? Particularly since so much of it seems to be uncertain. I love trying to piece together little bits of the history around tunes/songs ...

... shame about the soup though ... hope your wife gets better ... then I can have soup!!! :P :D

This was actually attributed to General US Grant, who was famously tone-deaf.

Lincoln, on the other hand, was self-depricating about his dancing ability.
As a young man he was approached by an attractive young lady at a dance, who came up to him and said "Mr Lincoln, I would like to dance with you in the worst way."
When the dance was over Lincoln told her "You got your wish. I did dance in the worst way."

But back to Danny Boy, this is my favourite performance of that song:

Um ... not what I understood - so I wiki'd it. Wiki says it's a British song written to mock Americans. Now used patriotically by Americans. Go figure.
