Yes. It's a young coon.

My sister took the photo of me holding it. Someone rescued it from a felled tree, and a friend of my sister's had it.

You have some cute friends there, Walden. :)

I love coons! One of my neighbors had one who had lost its front leg as a baby and couldn't be put back in the wild. Her name was Ribbet (like the sound a frog makes). She was such an adorable little critter!!

How is the rabies situation in your area regarding coons? Coons can carry rabies indefinitely and they get it from their mothers. And I do love coons, I've raised scores, but I also have a rabies vacination and I have my titer checked every year and get boosters when needed. Please be careful.

Awwww.

He's a spittin' image of our poodle, when he was younger and had his hair cut.
I'm no longer trying a new posting paradigm

My great-great granny died of the hydrophobia. Hope I didn't inherit it.

They are wonderful animals but we have no way to determine if one is carrying or not, there have been eight cases in my area just in the last two months, all raccoons, which are the repository for rabies nation wide. And gosh I hope you don't give it to the little guy if you did inherit it.

37% of reported cases in 2004 were in raccoons, I think. That's a huge proportion.

I didn't bite him, but he may have ingested a bit when I was foaming at the mouth.

Yeah, they can't tell the difference between foaming the mouth and KMR or Esbilac. :pint:
