Ya'll are on the prayer list here.
"Let low-country intruder approach a cove
And eyes as gray as icicle fangs measure stranger
For size, honesty, and intent."

My best wishes, as well.

My wife's day job is with Guide Dogs for the Blind, so we know quite a few people who've had the misfortune to experience vision problems at various points in their life. My best hope is for your loved one's speedy and quick recovery, but know that people are resilient, resourceful, and strong: it's amazing watching folks adapt to a new life without sight, and the lives they lead are no less rich or satisfying (though they are often more challenging). There are lots of good resources out there, but here's to hoping you don't need to avail yourself of them.

CJ,
That Chet sees your heart
shall not dim,
knowing your inner beauty.
A tune is played here
for his eyes,
that he may continue
to see the outward beauty
of the world
you share.
Enjoy Your Music,
Lee Marsh

I have started researching it as well as my best friend has it, but adult onset, insulin dependant. I'll add your SO to my prayer list, please add my friend (and all others suffering from it) to your list.

I have found these as well to have good info:
Diabetic Gourmet Magazine
Diabetes: WebMD
Taking Control of Your Diabetes
Glycemic Index

My thoughts and best wishes are with your SO particularly as I've just come back from the eye hospital myself because of similar diabetes complications.

There's a good diabetes group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/diabetes/

which I've found very supportive (and friendly) myself.

Thanks for the links and more kind words.

He's out of surgery and doing fine. The doctor was able to stop the leaking vessel.

Will post again later.

Prayers for your SO and for you.

I just had a good friend and co-worker tell me she's diabetic now. May the cure be just around the corner.

That would just be my luck. In order to save on buying a medicalert bracelet I've had the word "Diabetic" tattooed on my right hand. :D
